There are several holidays in Iran, and all of them have their history. In my opinion, 4Shanbe Soori is more exciting than others. In English it means Wednesday's Feast. 4Shanbe Soori is the last Tuesday night of a year. Celebration start from evening until mid night. All friends and families get to getter and they eating, drinking, dancing, singing and making the fire and jumping over it and singing '' Zardiye man az to, sorkhiye man az to.''Translating to English : My sickly yellow paleness is yours, your fiery red color is mine! It means : you want the fire take your sickness, pain, sadness and problem and fire gives you redness, warmth and energy.
There is a traditional snack as a name Ajil, which is mixed of nuts and dried fruits. The main food of dinner are Ash-Reshteh and Reshte polo.Translating to English : Pottage Reshte and Rice Reshte. ( Reshte is like Noodle ) They cook Noodle pottage in order to achieve their wishes and health of ill people.
The last part of night is Ghashogh Zani. Girls and women walk around with spoon and cooper bowl and they hide their faces with scarfs. They do not talk just hit the bowls with the spoons. They do it near 7 doors and the owners give them some rice or nuts or money by placing them in the bowl. Ghashoghzani is something like Trick or Treat for the Halloween custom.
These are Persian's believes about 4Shanbe Soori :
- Think, say and act positively.
- Be careful about the health.
- Take care of other people.
- Remove ٍEvil from your mind and your heart.
That sounds like an interesting holiday! I've never heard of it before. The 4 beliefs you mention are good advice for any culture.
